In Malayalam it is known as Poovamkurunnila, one of the ten herbs that constitute the group of reputed Ayurvedic medicines ‘Dashapushpa’. The genus is known for its intense purple flowers, edible nature etc. The traditional uses of Asteraceae plants include wound healing, asthma, dysentery, cold and diarrhoea.
